Green thumb prunes cannabis into hedge

IT looked like an average Nerang back yard with an above-ground pool and neatly trimmed hedges.

But a closer look at the shrubbery revealed they were actually cannabis plants and that put a new twist on the expression 'cultivating drugs'.

Nerang officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Gary Symons said police yesterday removed 30 healthy and mature plants, some more than 2m tall, with a street value of more than $100,000.

Top 10 Cocaine Songs Of All Time

Cocaine has had a significant impact on popular music. While booze is far more likely to result in sloppy work and an unsightly beer gut in middle age, coke leaves you wired enough to ensure that you will produce a whole lot of something, and thus ups the odds that you will actually produce something good.

ISPs to Ban P2P With New European Telecom Package?

ZeroPaid is reporting that ISPs could be turned into the copyright police through European legislation that received a number of 'intellectual property' amendments. Many of these amendments can be found here. Judging by the amendments, ISPs could be mandated to block legitimate traffic in an effort to 'prevent' illegitimate traffic. To help stop this legislation, you can check out the action page. Additional coverage can be found on EDRI and Open Rights Group

30 Most Incredible Abstract Satellite Images of Earth

“It is impossible to give a clear account of the world, but art can teach us to reproduce it - just as the world reproduces itself in the course of its eternal gyrations.” Albert Camus

Indeed, the world reproduces itself not only in the course of several gyrations, but at several different heights. At ground level, one can only imagine the sheer beauty of mountain ranges, deserts and deltas seen high up from NASA’s satellites. One can imagine - yes - however, they wouldn’t be quite prepared for the fact that from 400 miles away, the earth transforms into abstract art. The global landscape is impressionist, cubist and pointillist. Mother Nature is an abstract artist.

the art of the tracking shot

When Garrett Brown invented the steadicam back in 1976 the world of cinema changed forever. The steadicam allowed the camera to do things it never could have done before on bulky dollies and cranes. Here is a short list of some of the most memorable shots from films old and young that exemplify the beauty of the camera attached to a steadicam.

Study finds long benefit in illegal mushroom drug

People who took magic mushrooms were still feeling the love more than a year later, and one might say they were on cloud nine about it, scientists report in the Journal of Psychopharmacology.

"Most of the volunteers looked back on their experience up to 14 months later and rated it as the most, or one of the five most, personally meaningful and spiritually significant of their lives," comparing it with the birth of a child or the death of a parent, says neuroscientist Roland Griffiths of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, who led the research. "It's one thing to have a dramatic experience you say is impressive. It's another thing to say you consider it as meaningful 14 months later. There's something about the saliency of these experiences that's stunning."

The 24-year-old singer belted out renditions of her hit songs Valerie and Rehab in front of the 46,664-strong crowd, before returning to the stage at the climax of the gig for a rendition of The Special AKA's hit Free Nelson Mandela with Jerry Dammers and the Soweto Gospel Choir.

I was looking around for some new HDR pictures and found this great one from a car race. That's when i decided to make a third part of our series "20 Beautiful HDR Pictures". Hope this will never end.

The Feeling of Paying Cash for Your New Car: Priceless

Unlike most Americans, many Chinese still like to pay for things in cash.

Whether it be some fear of banks or a simple desire to avoid being in any sort of debt, many Chinese, like the guy in this article, are even willing to purchase a vehicle with cash instead of getting a loan.

Teens use technology to party in strangers' pools

Teens begin by surfing Google Earth’s satellite images to find houses with swimming pools — or at least paddling pools. Once a target has been identified, sweaty swimmers then use Facebook to arrange an organised, but uninvited, pool-crash.

One big drug test: Analyzing a city's sewage can put a number on its vices

Which city uses more cocaine: Los Angeles or London? Is heroin a big problem in San Diego? And has Ecstasy emerged in rural America?

Environmental scientists are beginning to use an unsavory new tool -- raw sewage -- to paint an accurate portrait of drug abuse in communities. Like one big, citywide urinalysis, tests at municipal sewage plants in many areas of the United States and Europe, including Los Angeles County, have detected illicit drugs such as cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana.

“Amsterdam will be going smoke-free from July 1st, and customers in the famous marijuana-selling coffee shops have been told that they will still be permitted to light up their cannabis joints - but only if they are free of tobacco.”

'The Cartels Are Refining their Semi-Submersibles'

They can travel up to 5,000 kilometers and are almost impossible to detect: US law enforcement agencies are struggling to intrecept semi-submersibles built in the jungles of Colombia. SPIEGEL ONLINE speaks to Coast Guard Rear Admiral Joseph L. Nimmich about the increasingly sophisticated methods employed by the drug cartels.

Colombia's Cocaine Cartels Learn a New Trick

The Columbian drug cartels have acquired a new weapon in their arsenal. They are now using small, submarine-like semi-submersibles assembled deep in the jungle to outmaneuver drug agents and traffic cocaine to North America.

The Cathode Ray Tube site, old electronic glassware

On these 28 pages you will find a lot of interesting pictures from a part of my tube collection. Together with other information and links to sites who share the same interest I will try to give you a trip through time in which a lot of discoveries took place, the time roughly between 1850 and 1950, when most of our modern techniques were invented. Let's have a look at the first famous CRT, Camera tubes and famous demonstration tubes like the Crookes Maltese Cross tube. Also Röntgen (X-Ray), Geissler tubes and Ruhmkorff coils are part of this website.
If you want to know more details about the topics, just follow the links on the pages to sites with in-depth information or biography from famous people like Ferdinand Braun, William Crookes or Heinrich Geissler.

Prince Sues Musicians For Making A Tribute Album For His Birthday

It's been really disappointing watching how Prince has squandered what had been seen as a enlightened view of how music works in this day and age. Instead of continuing to embrace that, and use it to his advantage, Prince has become fantastically anti-fan, and day-by-day seems to be destroying his reputation. It started with threatening fan sites, quickly followed up by lawsuits against YouTube, eBay and the Pirate Bay, and more recently has involved a bizarre and ill-advised strategy of taking down YouTube videos that he probably had no right to take down.
